The financial legacy of the COVID-19 pandemic
What will be the financial legacy of the COVID-19 pandemic? History is rife with examples of events such as the Industrial Revolution, world wars, and now COVID with extraordinary long-term effects on the global economy, financial markets, and political systems. One of the legacies of COVID-19 is inflation that in some places is at multidecade highs and that will require central banks to act decisively. Our view is that tight labor markets and strong wage pressures will dictate the pace of rate hikes. Over the last decade, real rates on government debt have been negative; central banks, green investment, and accelerated innovation will all help drive negative rates’ impending reversal. The beginning of the end of secular stagnation will be COVID-19’s greatest financial legacy, and that’s great news for long-term investors.

How the Great Resignation is Impacting Our Clients
Clients in their 50s and 60s have been retiring at a faster pace than pre-pandemic times. Others of all ages have left the workforce, or are more rapidly jumping to new employers.  While some clients will be just fine financially, others are rethinking their lives, perhaps for the better or worse, but they aren’t sticking to a plan. As advisors, we need to be prepared for how to counsel clients who are looking to make a major career or personal change, and how to adjust to a new financial strategy.

Relationships, according to Mitch, are the result of the exchange of stories. The more you and your client understand each other’s stories, the more lasting the relationship is. Mitch has identified three powerful forces influencing the movement of money either toward or away from the financial professional. Making connections by tapping into these three forces will ensure clients for life: Intellectual: the force that causes clients to feel valued, understood, and important in the advisor’s eyes. Life: the force that makes individual life events important to each client and impacts their money decisions. Emotional: the force that connects advisors to clients—the one that can close the door on all competitors.
